General information about Moscow

 Moscow, the capital of Russia, is one of the biggest cities in the world. It occupies the area of 1035 square kilometres.
Moscow's local time is
Greenwich Mean Time plus 3, the summer time (+1) is active in Moscow from March to October.
Population: about 9 million people, tourists and other city guests are not included.
Basic language: Russian.

Climate: moderate. The average temperature in July and August is (20 - 25) °C; in December and January - (10 - 20)°C. The humidity is moderate and, sometimes, high. The Moscow's winters are, as a rule, cold and snowy.

Officially, the Moscow's Ring Road (MKAD) of 109 km-length is considered the border of the Russian capital. But new city districts (Mitino, Butovo, etc.) emerge beyond the Ring Road.

There are over 10 rivers in Moscow and Moscow Region. The Moskva-River is the biggest one.

The relief of Moscow's territory is a rather complicated one. The highest points of Moscow's territory are there at the South-West, 250 meters above the sea level and 130 meters above the Moskva-River.

Administratively, Moscow is segmented into 10 administration districts. The names of districts comply with their location: Central, West, North-West, etc. The districts are, then, segmented into city regions, there are 128 of them in Moscow

It stands 9th centuries on the Russian land. Moscow became capital in the 15th century and since that times it plays great role in Russian life The city has always been a treasurer of national traditions which are widely presented in Moscow building system, in great number of historical monuments, in customs, habits and ways of Muscovites' style of living. Moscow people built city with all their heart and soul as if they had  
foreseen that it would grow and grow.

Moscow's location is various and very picturesque. In 16th and 17th centuries aliens were delighted by Moscow and compared it with Jerusalem, ideal sample of a beautiful city. Moscow's hills and mountains were compared with Seven Hills, and it made Moscow's topography closer to Rome's and ancient Istanbul's. But in fact the city mostly located on flat lands with numbers of big and small rivers with hilled and low coasts  with green meadows and rather wide estuaries.
 Moscow has always been a lively, joyful city with numerous places of entertainment, and this reflects in names of some streets and city sections.

Every century had added something very special and gorgeous to the architectural masterpieces of the Moscow Princedom at first, and then of the Russian State. Masterpieces of Moscow architecture became examples of how to build for other Russian cities. Survived under storms of ages these ancient masterpieces had become monuments of architecture and olden times. Instead of obelisks, statues and columns lot of churches are considered as historical monuments. St. Basil's Cathedral, which was built in memory of victory over Tatar khan, is first old-Russian architectural masterpiece

 Moscow is a city of museums, theatres, architecture, traditions and finally it is a city with the Heart. Kremlin surrounded by Red Square is, for sure, the heart of Moscow. It is the main square of the city. Centuries ago it was the biggest trading center in Moscow. For the time being Kremlin has combined in itself all significant and dramatic events of Russian history. Nowadays Kremlin is one of the biggest museums in the World. Invaluable masterpieces and Russian tsars' treasures are collected in Kremlin's towers and chambers.
