The State Tretyakov Gallery is one of the world's greatest museums. Its popularity is almost a legend. The museum contains the world's artistic masterpieces of Russian art.

During a tour you will enjoy the unique collection of Medieval Russian Art of the 11th-17th centuries, containing the best example of Russian icon-painting as well as sculpture, small plastic and applied arts.

Onward you will continue with paintings of the 18th to the turn of the 20th century. The collection also contains the best of Russian Graphic art: water-colours, engravings, and pastels. The numerous halls of the gallery are adorned by wonderful Russian sculpture. Images of the best people of Russia, historical characters, charming landscapes and enigmatic world of fairy tales painted by the outstanding artists create a unique atmosphere of Russian spirit in the halls of the Gallery. If you are fond of modern art you should visit Modern Building of the Gallery, located on Krymsky val. It is another outstanding part of the collection whish spans the period from the early 20th century up to present. Here you can admire works by Larionov, Falk, Malevich, Kandinsky, Filonov and other famous Russian painters of the 20th century. As a contrast you will see as well paintings of the so-called Social Realism showing us portraits of communist leaders, workers, farmers etc.
